Walter A. Needs 89 Anderson, Indiana formerly of Oblong, Illinois died Thursday

October 25, 2001 at St. John's Hospital in Anderson, Indiana. He was born May 12,

1912 in the Stoy area of Crawford County, Illinois. Walter was the son of Sherman E.

Needs and Mary A. (Wheeler) Needs. On February 27, 1937 he married Emma "Dink"

Wagner who died October 20, 1988. On August 28, 1993 he married Eunice Page who

survives. Walter was a Warehouse Manager at Pure Oil Company in Michigan, moved to

Illinois and became co-owner of Needs Brothers Oil Company for several years and then

was Purchasing Agent for Crawford Memorial Hospital for five years. Walter was a

member of Central United Methodist Church in Oblong as well as a 50 year member of

the Oblong Masonic lodge AF & AM #644, member of Oak Glen Golf Course, helped

with the Nutrition Center and was a graduate of Lockyears Business College in Evansville,

Indiana.

 

Walter is survived by his wife Eunice; one daughter and son-in-law Judy & Ted Johnson;

3 grandsons Denis & Sarah Johnson, Douglas & Maureen Johnson and Jeffrey & Leah

Johnson; step son John S. Podhaski; step daughter Jan Anderson; 1 step granddaughter; 7

great grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents;

first wife; 1 brother Dallas Needs; 3 sisters Vida Ashford, Beulah Litzelman and Evalena

Hawkins.


Rev. Ron Baker will officiate and burial will be in Oblong Cemetery.
